HTC One-like Windows Phone 8 device in the works: Report - NDTV

Taiwanese smartphone giant HTC might be working on a new Windows Phone 8 device built on the lines of the HTC One if a new rumour is to be believed.

According to NeoWin.net, the phone would not be a carbon-copy of the phone but will feature similar design elements. It reports that the device would sport a 4-inch to 5-inch display, and will have a metal body. It will come with BeatsAudio and run the GDR 3 update for Windows Phone 8. It is expected to be announced in fall (September-October) and will launch later in the year, as per the website.

We'll take this rumour with a pinch of salt as a lot of information mentioned in the report is based on speculation. It suggests that the phone might use the UltraPixel technology that has been deployed in the HTC One for the camera, and might feature a display with 1080p resolution and a quad-core processor as the GDR update brings support for the two features to Windows Phone 8.

At the moment, HTC offers two Windows Phone 8 devices, the HTC 8X and the HTC 8X. While the 8X is the company's top of the line Windows Phone device, the 8S is placed in the mid-range segment.  If the hardware specifications of the new phone match that of the HTC One, the phone will indeed be a premium offering priced significantly higher than the HTC 8X.

We're not sure if HTC will play a gamble by diverting its resources to produce such a device as Nokia dominates the Windows Phone platform with exclusive apps and services, and devices across all price segments and an agreement with Microsoft where it gets paid on a regular basis.
