Amazon has announced today that it will soon expand the Appstore for Android to nearly 200 markets. These markets include India, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, South Africa, and South Korea. The expansion will go live in the coming months, but application developers can immediately start submitting their apps for distribution in the new markets. This is the first big expansion for the Android app store from Amazon, which is currently only available in US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Japan. Such broad distribution will put Amazon in competition to Google and Apple, which currently have the biggest app stores on the planet. "Amazon's platform is a complete end-to-end solution for developers wanting to build, market and monetize their apps and games on Kindle Fire and Android devices. Allowing developers to target distribution of their apps and games in even more international countries is yet another important milestone as we strive to serve consumers and developers globally," said Mike George, Vice President of Apps and Games at Amazon. The Amazon Appstore for Android currently features around 80,000 applications and the number is expected to increase in the coming days with the expansion in new markets.
