Google's Chromebook Pixel touchscreen laptop 'not for everyone' - Telegraph.co.uk

Google is adding a new and more expensive touch to its line of Chrome laptops in an attempt to outshine personal computers running on software made by rivals Microsoft and Apple.

The Chromebook Pixel includes a nearly 13-inch display screen, 239 pixels per inch, slightly more than Apple MacBooks, that responds to the touch or swipe of a finger.

Chromebooks use an operating system called Chrome OS and encourage users to adopt the web for as much of their computing as possible, including using Google's online services such as email, as well as Google Docs and Google Music.

The £1,049 laptop will come with a terabyte of online storage.

Google designed the Chromebook for "power users" a fastidious and generally more affluent segment of the PC market willing to pay more for machines equipped with compelling features and components not found in cheaper laptops.

"It's not really for those heavy users who are going to need photoshop or are going to need Microsoft Office, who are going to need programs they can install in the computer," he said.

"It's really designed for people who mostly use the internet and do most of their work on the internet."
