I raised my hand to be Microsoft CEO: Nadella - Times of India

NEW DELHI: Satya Nadella says that he wanted to be the CEO of Microsoft because he believed as Microsoft CEO he could make an "impact".

In response to a question on why he wanted the job of Microsoft CEO, he says in a video posted by Microsoft, "It is a question I asked myself very deeply when the opportunity came up. When I think about why I am here (I believe) it is about the impact."

He added, "And in a software powered world what's the better place than Microsoft in terms of being able to take all of this human potential (thousands of employees) that we have and apply it to a world that is rapidly becoming more software driven... this opportunity is what fundamentally drives me and got me to take this up (CEO post)... I raised my hand for this job."

While specific of how Nadella will shape the business, products and services of Microsoft, are not yet ava ilable, he said that he wanted Microsoft to innovate. "First thing I want to focus on is ruthlessly remove any obstacles that don't allow us to innovate... and then I want to focus on things that Microsoft can uniquely do," he said.

In a separate video, Bill Gates said that he was "excited" to see Nadella as CEO. He said that the technology industry was going through some big changes and that "Satya has got the right background to lead the company through this era".

Gates also explained his new role at the company and revealed that it is Nadella who has asked him to spend more time at the company. "I am thrilled that Satya has asked me to step up, substantially increasing the time I spend at the company. I will have over a third of my time available (to) product groups and it will be fun to define this next round of products working together,"

"There is lots of opportunity in front of us and it is exciting that we have got a strong leader to take us there," added Gates
