It comes as eBay reported a sharp increase in the number of PlayStation 3s being sold on the auction site since PS4s launch in the US and Canada.
Between the PS4's launch in the US on November 15 and November 20, 14,000 PS3s were sold, a 25 per cent increase over the previous 10 days.
Microsoft has already broken sales records with the Xbox One after more than one million were sold in less than 24 hours.
The Xbox One is now sold out at most retailers, according to Microsoft. The company said that it is working to replenish stock as fast as possible to meet the "unprecedented demand" from its customers.
The PS4 also sold more than one million on its first day on sale in the US.
Gamers have already begun queuing in central London ahead of the console's launch at midnight tonight, with some camped outside the PS4 lounge in Covent Garden since Tuesday.
