Trade In Your Water-Damaged Samsung Galaxy S4 Active to AT&T - PC Magazine

Samsung Galaxy S 4 Active

Samsung's Galaxy S4 Active was designed to survive the most rugged mountain trails and the roughest rivers. But it turns out some can't even withstand a dunk in the bathtub.

Reports have surfaced that some GS4 Active handsets are not surviving the advertised three-feet-for-30-minutes swimming expeditions the devices are supposed to be built to endure.

Instead of blaming the customer, Samsung and AT&T are offering a solution: Just bring your damaged device into an AT&T retail store and exchange it for a new Galaxy S4 Active.

"Samsung designed and tested the Galaxy S4 Active to adhere to IP67 standards for water resistance (1 meter for 30 minutes)," an AT&T spokesman said in a statement. The carrier did not comment further on the reported issues or why some units appeared to fall short of meeting those standards.

Samsung did not immediately respond to PCMag's request for comment.

The South Korean phone maker unveiled the Active in early June, two months after its 5-inch Galaxy S4 hit shelves. Built to withstand everyday mishaps or a week at the beach, the Active provides extra protection from dust and water, with a "fully sealed design" to protect it from the elements.

It also comes with an internal liquid damage indicator, triggered when the phone exceeds its water-repellent limit.

Like the original Galaxy S4, the Active also features a 5-inch display, 1.9GHz, quad-core processor, and Android 4.2.2, as well as a 2-megapixel front-facing camera and an 8-megapixel rear cam. The Active comes with 16GB of internal memory, which can be expanded up to 64GB via micro SD.
