Samsung files patent for Galaxy Gear smartwatch - Times of India

LONDON: Mobile manufacturer Samsung is set to enter the wearable computing market with its upcoming smartwatch, called Galaxy Gear.

With Google Glass and Apple iWatch, Samsung has also joined the smart-gadget bandwagon and has filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office which states that the new device is a 'wearable digital electronic device in the form of a wristwatch, wrist band or bangle', the Sky News reports.

According to the report, the patent describes it as "capable of providing access to the internet and for sending and receiving phone calls, electronic mails and messages and the wireless receipt, storage and/or transmission of data and messages."

Samsung is expected to unveil details about the Galaxy Gear at the IFA electronics trade show on September 4, where it is also speculated to launch the next version of its flagship Galaxy Note phablet.
