Nokia is working a big-screen Windows Phone based smartphone which is expected to release later this year. The Verge reports that the company is currently testing a 6-inch smartphone running the latest version of the Windows Phone operating system.

This upcoming device is codenamed 'Bandit', and it will feature a 1080p resolution display and will be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. It is expected that this will be the first of many 1080p resolution display Windows Phone smartphones coming to various markets.

The report further suggests that the Nokia Bandit will feature a rear camera with at least 20 megapixels, and a slight hump on the rear similar to the Nokia Lumia 925. The Bandit will be a thin and lightweight smartphone which will be encased in a polycarbonate body.

On the other hand, Microsoft is constantly working on improving Windows Phone to support 1080p display smartphones, these will have an additional column of Live Tiles on the Start screen. The latest Windows Phone update, GDR3, also includes rotation lock, a new Driving Mode and other minor changes to the user interface.

Nokia plans to soon launch its existing Lumia 925 smartphone on additional US carriers, replacing the Lumia 920. It seems that Nokia is currently testing the Bandit with AT&T's network and it will launch with the carrier later this year.
