New Delhi: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has decided to take stern view of the pesky callers and SMSes.

TRAI has announced a tough set of rules to curb the ill-practice.

As per the guidelines, the phone connection of the company will be disconnected after third complain from a customer.

TRAI will also send a warning to the bank and real estate firm mentioned in the SMS.

As per the new rule, the service provider will have to shell out a fine of Rs 5,000 for every complaint by a customer.

Service providers have been asked to get rid of all unregistered telecallers.

"Telemarketers don't register with the TRAI to avoid paying registration fees and the charge of five paise per promotional SMS, and to reach out to even those customers who have registered themselves in a list that restricts such calls," the TRAI said.

TRAI is desperately trying to curb the ill-practice of telecallers disturbing the general public. In the past three year, the TRAI has passed several rules and regulations to prevent terlecallers from disturbing telephone users. But, telecallers have found ways to skirt around the regulations.
