Ford India has put brakes on bookings of some of the variants of its sports utility vehicle (SUV) EcoSport, citing the reason that the demand is more than its production capacity.

"We are witnessing an extended waiting period on certain variants and have temporarily stopped taking bookings on a few variants," said Ford India spokesperson.

Ford EcoSport received 30,000 bookings in the first 17 days after its launch on June 26, creating high dealer traffic and sales momentum, in contrast to the overall macroeconomic challenges facing the subcontinent.

In July, Ford India commenced shipments of the EcoSport to South Africa, Mexico and Aruba. The company inaugurated a dedicated car parking yard at the Chennai port to handle the increased export vehicle volume more efficiently.

"With Chennai strongly positioned as a regional export hub for Ford, we are excited to register the highest-ever exports too and are hopeful that the Chennai-built vehicles will satisfy customers in international markets." said Vinay Piparsania, executive director, Marketing, Sales and Service.

In all, Ford India sold 12,338 units in July, the highest-ever monthly sales in its history, with a surge of 48 percent year-on-year basis. It sold 7,867 units in domestic market, a 26 percent increase compared to July 2012.

In July, Ford India exported 4,471 units, its highest export number ever, an increase of 114 percent year-on-year from 2,087 units.

"Despite the near-term difficulty in the economy, our customers have put their trust in the urban SUV EcoSport, and with the Figo ranking as the best premium compact car in the prestigious J.D. Power India vehicle dependability study 2013, we are delighted to achieve the highest-ever sales in our history this month. It's encouraging to see customers visit our showrooms, ready to experience new emerging segments that are driving growth," said Vinay Piparsania.
Of the three variants, the 1.5 litre petrol variant is available between Rs. 5.59 lakh and Rs. 8.44 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The 1.5 litre diesel option is priced from Rs. 6.69 lakh to Rs. 8.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The EcoSport with 1 litre petrol with Ecoboost technology is available from Rs. 7.89 lakh to Rs. 8.28 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
