GURGAON: The Haryana transport department has decided to levy tax on ex-showroom price of vehicles with a view to curbing the practice of evading tax on vehicles used for personal purposes. The department said they are getting cases where the purchase price of the vehicle in the invoice is shown less than the actual in order to evade tax. This is a serious matter and the offenders are liable to strict legal action, said transport commissioner Sumita Misra on Thursday, while directing secretaries of the regional transport authorities (RTAs) and sub-divisional officers (civil)-cum-registering authorities to implement the rule. The ex-showroom price includes price of vehicle including the Central and state taxes or duties and other expenses. The purchase price is inclusive of al l expenses and taxes for the purpose of charging tax. Misra said as per the Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, a lump sum one-time tax, based on the purchase price, is levied on a vehicle used for personal purposes. The ex-showroom price of different models or variants of vehicles can be obtained from the local dealers. via Technology - Google News http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=AFQjCNHO3REX3zsvDU2vIacFKujCsZRDXA&url=http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/gurgaon/Tax-on-ex-showroom-prices-of-vehicles-soon/articleshow/20720965.cms | |||
