Instagram Adds Video; Samsung's New Tablets, Camera; Google Privacy Probe - PC Magazine

With major announcements from Facebook and Samsung, Thursday was a busy day in the tech world.

Facebook was up first, taking the stage at its Menlo Park headquarters to launch Instagram video. Instagram now allows for 15-second video clips and includes 13 custom filters just for video. A feature known as Cinema will also provide for image stabilization so no more dizzying shots of friends at the bar or the kids at the playground.

Meanwhile, Samsung yesterday hosted its own event in London to show off what it has up its sleeve for the Galaxy and Ativ brands. The Korean tech giant unveiled a slew of new products, including two new, Windows-8 powered tablets, the Ativ Q and Ativ Tab 3, as well as the Galaxy NX Camera; check out PCMag's hands on. Samsung also boosted its lineup of Ativ PCs, adding the Ativ Book 9 Plus, the Ativ Book 9 Lite, and the Ativ One 5 Style.

Not to be outdone, Lenovo also introduced a new group of touch-enabled Windows 8 laptops, as well as a slim Windows 8 tablet that it calls the Miix.

In other news, France's CNIL (Commission nationale de l'informatique et des libertés) threatened to fine Google unless it implements certain changes in the next three months. Google's policy, the agency said, violates the 1978 French Data Protection Act. Spain has also opened a sanction procedure for the infringement of key principles of the Spanish Data Protection Law.
