Uninor asked to refund users' balance amount in Mumbai, Kolkata - Economic Times

NEW DELHI: Telecom regulator TRAI today directed Uninor to refund within 15 days the balance amount of its subscribers in Mumabi and Kolkata where the company has closed its operations.

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in its direction to Uninor also asked the company to facilitate shifting their numbers to networks of other service providers.

The regulator directed other telecom operators to accept porting request of Uninor customers. TRA I also directed Uninor to publish procedure for porting number and refund of money in newspapers and on its websites.

"Refund, within fifteen days of issue of this direction, the amount available in the account of the consumer," the TRAI direction said.

Uninor had informed TRAI that it had to close its operations in 15 service areas following the Supreme Court order of February 15, 2013 which did not permit operators to continue services without acquiring spectrum through auction process.

Uninor had 10,12,630 customers in Mumbai and Kolkata. PTI
