With every big leadership change, there's inevitably a big shakeup among those at the top — and that's no different for Microsoft.

As its new CEO Satya Nadella climbs aboard, Microsoft is losing two major executives, according to Re/code: Tony Bates, the former Skype CEO who serves as the head of business development, and marketing head Tami Reller.

Re/code points to multiple sources close to the news. Nadella reportedly informed top staff of the news on Friday, and Microsoft was planning to announce the changes this Tuesday.

It certainly makes sense for Tony Bates to jump ship. He was one of many internal names being thrown around as a potential CEO replacement for Steve Ballmer. Now that the gig has been filled, Bates is better off moving on to a new project.

According to the report, Bates will be replaced by Eric Rudder, EVP of advanced strategy, while Reller will be replaced by Chris Capossela, a marketing executive. Re/code points out that Capossela will also take up advertising leadership duties, while current advertising and strategy head Mark Penn (best known for the ill-advise "Scroogled" ad campaign) will focus more on strategy.
