"Galaxy Note 3 is simply an iterative improvement over the existing, excellent models – but those improvements are pretty substantial leaps," he wrote.
"Samsung hopes many users will pair the Note 3 with the Galaxy Gear smartwatch. That offers the prospect of a far greater revolution – and both are categories Samsung has pretty much to itself."
Samsung's much-anticipated Gear smartwatch is also released today and boasts the ability to make phone calls, pick up emails and run apps.
The device was launched in style last night at a glitzy party in London attended by singer Ellie Goulding, model Daisy Lowe and TV presenter Jonathan Ross among others.
The South Korean company has beaten rivals Apple, Microsoft and Google in becoming the first to launch a smartphone, creating a new market that is predicted to grow rapidly in the coming years.
Technology analyst firm Canalys predicts the market will boom over 2014 with the release of a "new generation of devices", with up to five million smartwatches being shipped by the end of the year.
"Smartwatches will be the most important new product category in consumer electronics since the iPad defined the market for tablets," said Chris Jones, a vice president at the firm.
"Software platforms tied to smartwatches will also be a tremendous opportunity for developers to write apps in categories such as health and wellness or sports and fitness."
The company's decision not to make the smartwatch compatible with smartphones made by other companies has been criticised by some reviewers and is likely to limit sales.
The Galaxy Gear smartwatch's recommended retail price is £299, while the Note 3 will cost around £599.
Samsung also today announced plans to launch handsets with curved displays. Sales of the plastic devices will be released in South Korea in October.
