Kerala to showcase spice route project for envoys of 31 nations - Times of India

CHENNAI: Kerala plans to present its ambitious Spice Route project before ambassadors of 31 countries, which were part of the ancient sea trade route, in New Delhi in March. The aim is to chalk out a strategy to revive the ancient route that linked India's southwestern coast to Asia, northeast Africa and Europe.

"This will be the international leg of the Muziris project and will be the first international initiative to promote tourism and culture by a state government," Kerala Tourism director S Harikishore said durin g a promotion event here on Thursday. United Nations World Tourism Organization has pledged support for the project which will open at Kodungallur in February.

"We are planning 25 museums in and around Kochi. Eleven are ready and a hop-on-hop-off type boat service will be introduced. We will get the project running so that its progress can also be presented before the ambassadors," he said.

Tourists will be able to visit places like Paravur market, Kottayil Kovilakom, Paliam Krishna temple region, Gothuruthu Valia Church, Gothuruthu Cheria Church, Kottappuram market, Kottappuram fort, Pallipuram fort, Sahodaran Ayyapan memorial using the boat service.

The Muziris heritage site extends from North Paravur in Ernakulam district to Kodungallur in Thrissur district. The project's objective is to promote awareness and understanding of cultural distinctiveness and diversity of Muzuris.

Kerala also plans a campaign to promote Bekal next month.
