Indian gamers faced 2,07,245 cyber attacks in 2013, said a Kapersky Labs statement (Reuters)
There has been a massive rise in the number of cyber attacks aimed at gamers in 2013, with India alone accounting for 2,07,245 attempts, says Kaspersky Labs.
The cyber security company has identified 4.6 million pieces of gaming focused malware, together accounting for over 11.7 million attacks globally. On average, users were hit by 34,000 attacks related to gaming malware daily. Kaspersky Lab experts are recommending users take the right precautions, especially with PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One scheduled to be launched in India soon.
Globally, Russian gamers were the worst hit as hackers made 88,13,050 attempts this year, followed by Vietnam with 5,03,947 and China with 3,76,058. India came fourth.
Ksapersky warns that underground forums are full of cyber crooks selling access to people's gaming accounts, fuelled by attacks on gaming companies themselves. Malware targets specific games, such as the hugely popular Minecraft.
