'Passport' app by MEA India is still very basic, updated version to come shortly - Northern Voices Online

'Passport' app by MEA India is still very basic, updated version to come shortly. Meanwhile this basic version has gone on to become the top app on Apple App store's India page.

For many people this is a dream come true. But as India's Ministry of External Affairs has said this is still a very basic app and its better and much more improved version is going to be launched in the next few months, people are lapping up at it in their thousands making it the top app on Cupertino based Apple App store's India page.

There are chances that it will remain on top of the said page for a very long time to come as most people will find it of some real use. Passport applicants who get harassed in the course of their quest to get a new passport or get their passports renewed, will go for even a straw if they believe it is going to help them get the passport.

The new app still just does very basic tasks. You can get to see the status of your passport app on this Ministry of External Affairs developed app. But to be true, the reason of it becoming so popular within just a matter of 24 hours is due to the fact that the harassed people who spend weeks and months in making rounds of passport offices across the country and in its embassies abroad want the help of anything that can make their task easy. Most of the people who go and apply for passport have to face so much difficulty that they become frustrated many a times. Almost everyone of us has felt some sort of bad experience and frustration from passport offices and this frustration has forced the passport seekers to go and seek the help of this miracle app.

There is a sort of mad rush of the people to go for this very basic app from India's Ministry of External Affairs. People are expecting the MEAIndia app to make their task easy. But at this point of time the app can just show them the status of their applications and also location of passport offices and embassies and consulates in different countries. The MEA has launched both iOS and Android version of the passport app and it has become super hit on both Android and iOS. The MEA says that the app is set to become much more improved in the coming months. In its present avatar only passport application status can be checked but, in the next few months, anyone can apply for passport through this app which is available for free on apple store. India seem to have taken a lead in this regard as reports suggest that it is for the first time that a country's foreign ministry has been able to integrate and consolidate its entire digital presence on a palmtop, thanks to 'passport' app. The 'passport' app will provide details of all citizen-centric services of the MEA like passport, visa for those travelling to India and Haj related information.
