The Indian market too is also becoming much more competitive with the arrival of top handsets in the last few months. Earlier the top handsets used to arrive here months after their launches in the world market. Apple's iPhone used to come at least six months after their arrival in US and European market. The same was true about Korean tech giant Samsung's handsets and about other well known brands be it HTC, BlackBerry, Nokia or HTC handsets.
There is no doubt that this is not because of their love for India or Indian people. With the smartphone market in US and Europe becoming saturated, they need new markets to exploit. The latest arrival in the country is that of LG Optimus G Pro, a 5.5 inch phablet. The Korean tech giant LG has brought out its most expensive smartphone for the Indian market with a quad core processor termed LG Optimus G Pro. The device that is up for grabs at Rs 42,500 is being deemed as the highest priced phone from house of LG for the Indian market. Following the launch of the Optimus G Pro, LG has officially entered into the high end smartphones segment which until now was being ruled by Samsung, Apple, Blackberry and Sony. Reports suggest that LG is working on a long term strategy for India. With a solid investment of Rs 80 crore to push its sales in the Indian market, LG's Optimus Pro G runs on Android Jellybean v4.1.2 operating system and is powered by a 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor. The smartphone has a 5.5 inch full HD IPS display, which carries the DNA of LG's high definition TVs. This model has a pixel density of 400ppi, one of the highest in the market. The device has 2GB RAM and an internal memory of 16 GB. Equipped with 4G LTE, LG Optimus G Pro has the battery capacity with 3,140 mAh with an improved 13 MP rear and 2.1 MP front Full HD camera. The smartphone boasts dual recording that captures video with both the front and rear cameras simultaneously and virtual reality panorama feature allowing 360 degree viewing, from taking pictures of both horizontal and vertical environment. The UX features popular with Optimus G users have been added to the Optimus G pro, such as upgraded Q Slide, Live Zooming and Quick Memo. Other features in the smartphone include Q Remote, Audio Zoom, Video Wiz, Magic Remote Pad. The company seems to be following Samsung models and reports suggest that it will launch around 30 new models at low and high price range by the end of 2014, LG India Managing Director Soon Kwon said "We were reshaping our mobile phone business. It took us and one and half years to do so. At present our market share is close to 5 per cent in the country which we expect to increase to 10 per cent by end of of next year. LG expects to sell 1 million smartphone this year. As a part of our strategy, we will be adding 100 to 150 retailers every month to expand our reach. At present, we sell through 1,600 top retailers which we expect to increase to over 3,000 retailers by end of this year. The company's smartphone have silicon oxide battery developed in-house which have higher current density, needs less recharge and are thinner compared to lithium battery. The smartphone has pushed demand for data and video consumption which needs better battery life. At anytime, the battery back up in LG phones will be 1.25 times better than any other smartphone in similar category."
