New Delhi: General Motors India Pvt. Ltd on Wednesday announced a recall of as many as 114,000 Taveras, its multi-utility vehicle, to address issues related to emissions and specifications. The recall will be applicable on Chevrolet Tavera BS3 (2.5 litre variant) and BS4 (2 litre variant) vehicles sold between 2005 and 2013, the company said in a statement. Mint first reported on 11 June that GM India had asked its dealers to stop selling the Tavera as well as diesel variants of its newly launched Sail sedan and the Sail U-VA hatchback. On Wednesday, a company spokesperson said GM India was yet to make a decision on the recall of the Sail models, adding that it hopes "to begin production of Sail models from month-end". Production of Sail diesel models stopped on 5 June. The Indian subsidiary of the US car maker had never recalled a product in the country since it was established in 1995. The company has informed Indian government authorities of an emissions issue involving the Tavera BS3 and an issue with the Tavera BS4 with regard to meeting certain specifications. It stopped production and sale of the Tavera BS3 on 4 June and the Tavera BS4 on 2 July. "The issues are not safety-related," GM India said. As per a voluntary recall policy adopted by the Indian auto industry in July last year, companies need to inform industry lobby Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, or Siam, the government and customers about any fault in their products that may require a recall. The industry had recommended that the government take action if members failed to declare any defects or faults in their vehicles. Mint on 23 July reported that auto companies have recalled about 210,294 cars, or about 11.43%, of the 1.8 million cars sold in the 12 months to June, according to data provided by Siam. GM India said it has identified a solution to the issues with its Tavera models and performed the required engineering validation, and is awaiting regulatory approvals. "After the proposed solution receives approval from authorities, GMI (GM India) will resume Tavera production and sale, and move forward with its recall and customer notification plan for both the BS3 and BS4 models," it said. The company will notify customers how and when to bring in their vehicles for service. The 114,000 affected vehicles will be repaired free of charge at GM India's 280 dealers. ![]() via Technology - Google News http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=AFQjCNEXW9ihle3QFFhTSUEMG8sLTc-yoQ&url=http://www.livemint.com/Companies/5EcbYYeUm0EPnvwggN9jWP/GM-India-recalls-114-lakh-units-of-Tavera.html | |||
