Panasonic re-enters mobile space - The Hindu

Electronics major Panasonic on Thursday launched its first smartphone, the P51, marking its re-entry into the mobile phone market.

The company aims to capture 8 per cent share in the domestic smartphone market by launching new devices with prices ranging from Rs.6,990 to Rs.35,000.

"We expect to capture 8 per cent smartphone market share in India in the first year. We plan to invest Rs.200 crore over the next 12 months to grow this category in India," Panasonic India Managing Director Manish Sharma told reporters here.

Panasonic has collaborated with Jaina Marketing as the strategic partner for marketing, distribution and customer support for the devices.

The company has also appointed Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan as brand ambassador for its smartphones.

The Panasonic P51 sports a 5-inch display and is powered by a 1.2 GHz quadcore processor along with 1 GB RAM. It also features an 8 megapixel rear camera, 1.3 megapixel front camera and 4 GB of internal memory that can be expanded via the microSD card slot.

The device runs on the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system.
