Japanese car giant Honda's Amaze has crossed 22,000 bookings since its announcement two weeks ago. Maruti Dzire looks beaten compared to Amaze Just like the name goes, Honda Amaze has amazed one and all with 22,000 bookings already on its notepad. With these numbers, the latest sedan from the house on Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL), has outclassed Maruti Swift Dzire, which had failed to draw such a response following its launched almost a year ago. Even as Maruti managed to sell 20,078 units of the Swift Dzire, last month, the latest pre-booking figures of Amaze has simple taken away the shine from its rival, which until now had dominated the segment. Amaze is the first car for the Indian market from Honda that has a diesel variant. Running on a powerful a 1.5 litre iDTEC engine providing 100 PS of max power, the company claims the fuel efficiency of the sedan at 25.8 Kmpl, there by making it one of the most fuel efficient cars of India, something which only Maruti had boasted of till now. Further, the sedan's 1.5 litre iDTEC engine has been developed alongside the much hyped 1.6 litre iDTEC engine that powers the diesel variant of Civic and CR-V in European car market. The engine, constructed of aluminum thus being lightest in its class, benefits from Honda's trademark EarthDream technology.
Speaking about the car, Senior Vice President (marketing and sales), HCIL, said: "With Amaze,Honda has set a new phase of growth in the country. Amaze has received tremendous response from the customers despite the slowdown in the industry. We are confident that Amaze would drive our growth in this fiscal year." At present, the product of Amaze at the HCIL's two plants, Greater Noida and Tapukara, is limited to 4500-5000 units per month. This means that the buyers, especially for the diesel variant, would have to wait for some time before they can lay their hands on the amazing set of wheels. As per the recent readings, Amaze not only outsold Maruti Swift Dzire, but also those of Jazz,City, Accord and CRV all taken together from the house of Honda. Unlike Swift Dzire, that is good to look at only from front, Amaze spells sedan from all sides. With smooth flowing curves, the car has more use of chrome in its body with indicators on rear view mirror and the B-pillars blackened out. Amaze's instrument meter has eco light and retractable rear view mirrors, which proves to be a boon while driving through heavy traffic. Further, unlike its rival, Amaze has a lot of leg room and head room in the rear seats, thus making it comfortable for three persons to sit together. The drawback stands at the non-adjustable headrests on the seats. The latest entrant offers 400 liters of boot space as against 360 litres provided by Swift Dzire. It is important to note that HCIL, has managed to sell 8,488 units till now for the year 2013. In 2012, the company had managed to sell 7,075 units for the same period, thus recording a growth of 20 percent in the sale.
