BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins, during his opening keynote at the BlackBerry Live conference in Orlando May 14, introduced the Q5, the third smartphone to run BlackBerry 10 and the first mid-tier phone in the BB10 portfolio. While the company hasn't spoken about pricing, the Q5 will certainly be less expensive than the Q10, from which it's derived. Though while both pair a 3.1-inch display with a dedicated QWERTY keyboard, the physical resemblance ends there. The Q5 is made of a cheaper-looking and -feeling material, the keyboard is different, the screen is an LCD instead of the Q10's Super AMOLED (active-matrix organic LED)—though both have a resolution of 720 by 720—and it comes in colors and finishes that some might find don't flatter it. While a mid-tier device, headed for emerging markets, is no doubt critical for BlackBerry, it was an interesting decision to show it off on such a large stage—literally and metaphorically—at a time when perfecting its brand image and proving that it can compete at the highest end of the market are so critical. ![]() via Technology - Google News http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=AFQjCNEgDk8JsTKLPvH97ZzdSMth3sAKrg&url=http://www.eweek.com/mobile/slideshows/blackberry-gives-q5-mid-tier-qwerty-a-center-stage-introduction/ | |||
