Sony Xperia SP - Hitting Three Soon - 3G.co.uk

The Sony Xperia SP is the latest addition to Three's ultrafast range of phones.

Three's Ultrafast service has proved an impressive stop gap for anyone who wants 4G but doesn't want to get it on EE for any reason. It may not be as fast as 4G, but it's noticeably quicker than 3G and Three's prices are generally very reasonable while still offering all-you-can-eat data, something which is kind of handy if you want to make proper use of Ultrafast or 4G.

Where their Ultrafast service hasn't been quite so impressive is in the selection of Ultrafast ready phones available. It's not bad exactly but it's far from comprehensive. Fortunately it's getting bigger all the time and the Sony Xperia SP is the latest addition.

With a 4.6 inch 1280 x 720 HD screen it should be plenty big enough for most people, while the use of BRAVIA Engine 2 technology should lead to great image quality. Couple that with a 1.7 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor and 1 GB of RAM and while you're not looking at a top end handset it should be a solid mid-range phone, able to cope with HD video and most games. It also includes an 8 megapixel camera, up to 8 GB of built in memory, a micro SD card slot to expand the storage capacity, a colour changing notification light and the promise of a strong battery which can manage up to 18 hours and 53 minutes of talk time.

Things don't stop there either, as thanks to Sony's xLoud technology the handset should have loud audio without distorting the sound, while the Exmor RS sensor that it's equipped with promises great photos. It looks slick too, thanks to a premium aluminium frame.

The Sony Xperia SP isn't available quite yet and is simply listed as 'coming soon', so keep an eye out for it. There's no word on price yet either, but when it does launch it will be joining the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, iPhone 5, Sony Xperia Z, HTC One, Blackberry Z10 and more, so while Three may not offer a comprehensive selection of phones for their Ultrafast network they do have most of the big names covered.

As a reminder, Three's Ultrafast customers will automatically get 4G access once the network launches it later this year and it will come at no extra cost- so presumably you'll still be able to enjoy unlimited data.

All of the Sony Xperia SP handsets on Three are 4G ready and all of their price plans for the handset include access to 4G just as soon as it's available, which ensures that your handset is future proofed and you won't need to upgrade again in a year just to get 4G.

If you'd rather have the Sony Xperia SP on another network you may be in luck as O2 also look set to sell it sometime this month, though for the time being you'll be stuck on 3G if you opt for them and again there aren't yet any price details.
