Mercedes-Benz to launch three cars in three months - Deccan Chronicle

Hyderabad: In an attempt to increase its market share in the luxury car segment and clock a double digit growth in this fiscal, Mercedes-Benz will launch three new models in a span of just three months.

Speaking to the newspaper, Eberhard H. Kern, managing director and chief executive officer of Mercedes-Benz India said, "After finishing 2012 with overall sales volumes of around 7,000 cars, and registering a growth of about 5.3 per cent during the Q1 ended March 31, 2013 with 2,009 cars, we expect to clock double-digit growth during the current year."

The company will roll out its all-new luxury sports utility vehicle, GL, in India on May 16 in New Delhi and the launch will be followed by the rolling out of the B-Class diesel variant and the much hyped A-Class in both diesel and petrol variants.

"We want to strengthen our below Rs 30 lakh portfolio and for this we have also planned a few launches in the SUV segment as well," Mr Kern said.

Expressing concern over the slump in the auto sector, the Mercedes-Benz India CEO said, "Our outlook from the luxury segment which is around 1.2 per cent of the entire market share continue to remain bullish. However, India needs to redo its plans as far as taxation is concerned."
