Mahindra Reva & Vodafone partnership will make m2m possible in Reva e2o - Northern Voices Online

It is going to be a truly futuristic electric car. Mahindra Reva & Vodafone partnership will make m2m possible in Reva e2o

Mahindra Reva e2o car is futuristic, there is no doubt about it. This small electric car is making waves throughout the country. After the takeover of Reva, Mahindra and Mahindra have made strides as far as green technology is concerned, and the company is going to benefit due to the fact that it is the first to take a concrete step in this regard. Mahindra and Mahindra must be very happy over another development. On the eve of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's visit to Germany, the German government has announced a grant of $1 billion aid to India for developing green technology. M&M will certainly benefit with this grant in the days to come.

In the meantime Mahindra and Mahindra is really trying to make this small and very beautiful electric car a futuristic car. The latest reports suggest that the company has entered into an alliance with leading telecom company in India Vodafone, that will provide a system that will enable a e20 car owner to control car's functions. Reports suggest that Vodafone will be providing machine to machine communication services (m2m)

Two machines will be involved in this machine to machine communication services (m2m). One SIM will be installed in the M&M e20 car, while the other will be put in the user's smart-phone. This way a user will be able to control his car even from outside it. Mahindra Reva e2o is a good electric car. The car giant's entry into the market is set to take the company straight into the hot waters of electricity cars, a segment that seems to have been orphaned in the West with the exit of several top car manufacturers from the scene in recent months. Toyota and Nissan are two companies that have sort of given up on electric cars as a viable business option. To be true, top class Toyota and Nissan cars that have been showcased into the US and European market may feel Indian SUVs look pale in comparison, but the good thing is that a beginning has been made finally that is going to take the market to its next level of development.

The company's performance has been brilliant as far as this small car is concerned. Mahindra seems to have worked really seriously on the project and showcasing this impressive car merely three years after taking over the company that manufactured very small looking Reva car that could hardly accommodate two people. If the car turns out to be a real success it will be the beginning of a new chapter in automobile business in India. To be true, notwithstanding best efforts and investments worth billions of dollars two premier Japanese automakers––Toyota and Nissan––are giving up the idea of making battery-powered Electric vehicles. The concept of electric car was developed more than a century back yet it did not click. Now the automakers are switching over to hydrogen, a new alternate power source, to fulfil the dream of green car. The consumers are showing little interest in electric vehicles. Incidentally, they were very common in the United States in the first few years of 20th century. It was later that the gasoline-powered cars replaced them.

For electric car fans, there is one single issue concerning e20. It is going to be its battery that will cost some Rs 125000. It uses a lithium ion battery and promises a run of 100 kms on a single charge. The car's price Rs 5.96 lakh  in Mumbai seems very aggressive indeed. But it is going to take some time before the company is actually  able to sell substantial number of cars. The car market is facing its toughest time, and it was probably not the right time to launch this promising little car.
