CALANGUTE: Karen Davidson, great-grand-daughter of William Davidson, one of the founders of Harley Davidson, said that Goa is perfect for leisure motorbike riding. "Goa is phenomenal. It's absolutely beautiful. The riders are all happy to be riding in Goa." She was addressing a media meet on the occasion of the 110th anniversary celebrations of Harley Davidson on Friday at Sinquerim. Harley Davidson India's 10th dealership in India is going to be shortly opened in Goa, according to Anoop Prakash , MD of the reputed company's India wing. "It's a momentous occasion for us," he said, referring to the 110th anniversary celebrations. He said they chose Goa for the anniversary celebrations because they knew that "everybody would love to come to Goa." Speaking to TOI about the Harley Davidson mystique, Karen said it's all about lifestyle. "I've had the honour to travel to so many places around the world where there are Harley owners and they are all united by the passion to ride a Harley. It's a passion that goes across cultures. It's the thrill of riding." She said that though there are still biker gangs like the Hell's Angels in the US, the motor-biking culture is also changing and today there are a lot of people who ride it for the lifestyle experience. "People look to the lifestyle to escape stress," she said, emphasizing, "Harley is about free expression of individuality. Each one does his own thing. There are hundreds of thousands of bikers wh o come for the big bike events in the US and each one does his own thing, the biker gangs on one side, the family people on one side. It's no longer unusual to see women riding Harleys. We sell 12% of our brand new bikes to women." As great-grand-daughter of the legendary co-founder of Harley Davidson, William Davidson, Karen is involved in designing Harley Davidson Motor Clothes. On her first visit to India, she said she plans on something different for India in keeping with its climate and culture. She says she's proud to be a part of the Davidson family. "I'm very proud and I also have a job to do. And I've always learnt from my dad, 'Learn what the customers want.' It's our job to keep listening and keep improving," she said. She had a word of advice for motorbike riders. "There are five things always: helmet, protect your eyes - glasses, protect your feet - shoes, your hands - gloves and your jacket." Harley Davidson is the sponsor of the Indian Bike Week which is fast becoming a major international bike festival, said Prakash. via Technology - Google News http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=AFQjCNFVipPdXQw7bK4060FqoZIdM44yxA&url=http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/Goa-perfect-for-leisure-biking/articleshow/18299516.cms | |||
