Smartphones: Octa-core Smartphones Faceoff in India

With the recent launch of Gionee's Elife S5.5 smartphone, the octa-core competition heats up in India.

The Gionee smartphone claims to be the slimmest smartphone on any market with a mere 5.5mm thickness. The Elife S5.5 features an octa-core 1.7GHz processor with an unidentified chipset. Many believe the Elife S.5's chipset will be MediaTek's MT6592, which is also featured in the Elife E7 Mini. The smartphone has a full HD Super AMOLED display, one of the first non-Samsung phones to feature this. The Gionee Elife S5.5 has a 13 megapixel rear camera as well as an 8 megapixel front-facing camera. It runs on Gionee's Amigo OS, a heavily-skinned, iOS-like, version of Android 4.2 and features Wi-Fi, 3G, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetoorh, and GPS/A-GPS connectivity. All of this is powered by the Elife S5.5's Lithium Ion 2300 mAh battery. While Gionee's smartphone, dubbed the Eli fe S5.5 for its 5.5mm profile, packs quite a punch with its octa-core processor and 5 inch display but it is not alone.

The Micromax Canvas Knight A350 gives the Elife S5.5 some major competition, also packing a 5 inch display and octa-core processor. The Canvas Knight features full HD resolution, manufactured by SHARP, with a pixel density of 441ppi. The Micromax smartphone features a MediaTek MT6592T 2GHz octa-core processor along with Mali 450 GPU and 2GB of RAM. The smartphone features a 16 MP main camera with OmniVision's CameraChip sensor and a next generation M8 Largan Lens as well as an 8 megapixel front-facing camera. The Canvas Knight runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean though it has the capacity to run KitKat. The Micromax Canvas Knight A350 is available for Rs 19,999.
