MICROSOFT WILL TAKE OVER Nokia's devices division on Friday 25 April, having received all regulatory approvals.
Microsoft general counsel and EVP of legal and corporate affairs Brad Smith announced the date and added some information in a blog post.
He said that, although no one had mentioned it before, Microsoft will also take over the Finnish phone firm's online presence, including Nokia.com.
"The completion of this acquisition follows several months of planning and will mark a key step on the journey towards integration," said Smith.
"This acquisition will help Microsoft accelerate innovation and market adoption for Windows Phones. In addition, we look forward to introducing the next billion customers to Microsoft services via Nokia mobile phones."
Smith said that adjustments have been made to the deal because of the scale and complexity of the agreement.
The Nokia.com website and social media efforts will be looked after by Microsoft "for the benefit of both companies and customers", but only for a year.
Other changes are also lined up, and Smith revealed that while Microsoft had said that "all employees" at Nokia's Chief Technology Office in China will remain as Nokia employees, they will now be transferred to Microsoft.
Microsoft has also nixed plans to pick up a Korean manufacturing facility. No reason was given for the change.
More information about the deal can be found in a letter from Nokia that has been shared on the Nokiapoweruser website.
That memo said that the Nokia name is on its way out. "The name of Nokia Corporation/Nokia Oyj will change to Microsoft Mobile Oy," said the letter that has been sent to suppliers. "Microsoft Mobile Oy is the legal entity name that should be used for VAT IDs and for the issuance of invoices."
Earlier this month the deal was given the green light by the Chinese authorities, having already won nods from the European Commission and the US Department of Justice. ยต
