Talk of a new iPhone 6 is heating up once again, and the latest rumors tell us that the device will come with its share of killer features, and possibly some improved fundamentals that would make the iPhone 6 a definite upgrade over the "incremental" iPhone 5s. As improved specs appear to be a given, let's take a look at some of the newest iPhone 6 rumors and how they relate to the device's selling points.
One of those killer features could be a sapphire display on the iPhone 6, allowing for much greater, if not absolute scratch resistance. This can be inferred through a new Apple patent that would also allow the sapphire screen to be resistant to fingerprint smudging. Apple already makes use of sapphire glass, using it as a build material for the iPhone 5s lens cover; seen in action, this prevents scratches from appearing in photos. And with Apple having bought out GT Advanced Technologies last year, it stands to reason that a scratch- and smudge-resistant display may be one of the iPhone 6's killer features.
A second possibility for a selling feature, though not the only other one, would be a special type of battery technology that would allow for a much longer-lasting iPhone 6. The hit-or-miss DigiTimes said earlier this week that Apple may be using automated machines to manufacture batteries for the iPhone 6, which would allow Apple to save on production costs and streamline the entire manufacturing process. In addition, DigiTimes also wrote that Apple is currently placing orders for iPhone 6 batteries ahead of the expected fall 2014 launch. Neither report tells us how Apple plans to extend battery life, always a weakness on the iPhone, but with orders being placed and a possible shift from human to automated processes, we could know more about the iPhone 6's battery-saving features in the weeks to follow.
