The LTE version of the Surface 2 tablet should be here soon.

As expected, sources are now claiming that the LTE version of the Surface 2 for AT&T is already shipping to select Microsoft stores to build up supply. The device was announced last year during a Reddit AMA, but given no definitive release date. A recent FCC filing indicates that the device is nearing its public debut.

Sources have pointed to an April 2014 release date for some time. That is also the same month Microsoft will release Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 8.1 Update 1. There has also been some talk about the Surface Mini arriving in that timeframe, but chatter has been rather quiet on that front.

Looking ahead, customers will likely see Windows 8.1 Update 2 this fall. The big release party will likely be in April 2015 when Microsoft introduces the "Threshold" releases including Windows 9, Windows Phone 9, the big Xbox One update and a unified store. This is all speculation of course, so take it with a grain of salt.

In addition to news about the Surface 2 LTE, the Power Cover is now available to pre-purchase, costing $199 USD. The device measures 9.75 mm thin, weighs 0.55 pounds, and works with the Surface 2, Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2. The device connects via a magnetic interface, and features an accelerometer. The only available color is black.

"The Power Cover has all the standard features of a classic QWERTY keyboard—a full row of Function keys (F1-F12), Windows shortcut keys, media controls, and a trackpad make it easy to navigate your Surface without taking your hands off the keyboard," reads the product page. "An ultra-thin trackpad lets you control the cursor with your fingertip."

The power cover will ship on March 19.
