Mumbai: Telecom Secretary MF Farooqui that legal possibilities have to be examined before charging licence fee from messenger services like Whatsapp. The remarks came after telecom companies said there should be licence fee on messenger services.

CNBC: There are telecom companies I was speaking to today who said that some license fee should be charged from messenger service like Whatsapp. Is that something the government will look at?
MF Farooqui: To tell you honestly it's an interesting suggestion but I don't know. I will have to see what are the legal possibilities.
CNBC: They have been saying that they are losing out on revenue.
MF Farooqui: I can understand their worry, but let us see. These things we have to examine in great detail.
