Along with the GPad G4, Gionee has also launched a mid-range smartphone dubbed M2 for the Indian market. The M2 also follows the phablet trend with a 5-inch display and promises prolonged battery life, just like some of the competition in recent months. Unlike the GPad, the M2 is a budget device and priced at Rs 10,999, though we reckon the price in the market will be lower.
The Gionee M2 is a dual-SIM smartphone and runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, with Gionee's Amigo UI customisations. The highlight of the device is its massive 4200mAh battery that promises 24 hours of talktime and 55 hours of standby time. The M2 is all set to compete with Micromax's recently launched Canvas Power that comes with a similar specs sheet and price. Priced at Rs 9,990, the Micromax Canvas Power comes with a 4,000 mAh battery. While most other specs are on par with the Power, the Gionee M2 gets a bigger battery unit, which could explain the higher price.
The M2 sports a 5-inch display with 480×854 pixels of resolution. It is powered by a quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex A7 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. The chipset maker has not been unspecified in the official press release. On the connectivity front, it won't disappoint users with support for 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS/A-GPS. The 4GB onboard storage is expandable up to 32GB via microSD card slot.
It gets an 8MP rear snapper and a 2MP front-facing camera. On the software front, Gionee has added camera features such as face beauty effects, hands free photos gesture recognition, motion sensing, mode for horizontal and vertical panoramas, face detection and touch focus. The M2 is available in black and white.
