The country's fourth largest passenger vehicle producer, Tata Motors is betting big on the new Nano Twist to rev up sales of the world's cheapest passenger car.
The refurbished Twist, launched Tuesday, comes with features such as an electric power-assisted steering system in three new bold colours.
Sales of Nano plunged to 4,000 units during the quarter October-December, 2013 as against peak sales of over 27,000 units during the quarter January-March, 2012.
According to the company, sales were on the lower side last year for the auto sector in general. "We expect the new launches to rev up our sales. We have a market share of about 8 per cent in passenger cars and we hope to improve this with the new launches," said Ashesh Dhar, national sales head (south and east - passenger cars), Tata Motors.
The Nano Twist will be priced at Rs 2.48 lakhs ex showroom in Bangalore.
The company also launched Vista VX Tech, which comes with new technological features like GPS Navigation, steering mounted controls and a new suspension system. Vista was first launched in 2008 and since then, the company has rolled out five variants. It sells over 100,000-units per month across the country. The car will be priced between Rs 4.97 lakh and Rs 6.12 lakh ex showroom in Bangalore for different variants.
Meanwhile, Dhar said petrol variants contribute about 15 per cent to the company's total passenger car sales. "There's a shift from diesel to petrol-driven cars. A majority of our petrol vehicle sales are contributed by Nano," he said.
