Samsung Note 3 owners who've upgraded to Android KitKat, don't be surprised if some third party accessories have suddenly stopped working with your device. Samsung has been working on a policy which entitles only those accessories to work properly with its devices that are fitted with the official identification chip. According to Sammobile, Samsung has begun enforcing the rule on third party accessories with the latest version of TouchWiz build, so those who have upgraded to KitKat are likely to face this problem.
Basically, as soon as users upgrade to KitKat, the OS version begins checking for the ID chip in the accessory, and if found missing the accessory doesn't work. Some posts on XDA forums reportedly reveal that the device no more works with Spigen S-View flip cover, which mimics the functionality of the official Samsung cover. The problem is likely affect a slew of third-party accessories that are already available for the Note 3. The only way to restore functionality is by attaching the ID chip to the third-party accessory or used an Xposed Module to regain functionality, although that requires a rooted device.
It is highly speculated that this change will be revoked due to user outrage. It's been less than four months since the Note 3 launched, and it would have been wise to implement such a policy when it just launched. But now that several accessories may have already been purchased by users, Samsung may be forced to change its position or risk earning bad press.
