At first, it might sound like a godsend for frustrated Samsung Galaxy S4 users that Android 4.4 KitKat is now being tested, at least for the international GT-I9500 model number; Android 4.3 Jelly Bean has brought upon a cavalcade of problems for Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S3 users, and device owners are clamoring for a bug fix or, in many cases, Android 4.4 itself. But the downside of this news is that Android 4.4 doesn't appear to be ready yet for release.
According to Sam Mobile, Android 4.4 KitKat for the Samsung Galaxy S4 has recently entered the testing stage, but the software isn't stable enough at this point to be rolled out to device owners. It would appear that Samsung wants to avoid the same problems that have plagued Android 4.3 thus far, problems that led to a P.R. debacle for the company and forced it to apologize to some Galaxy S3 owners. In the words of Sam Mobile, Android 4.4 is not yet stable enough to be considered a "daily driver", meaning a reliable operating system that shouldn't cause too many problems, if at all.
Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is now getting updated to Android 4.4 KitKat in Poland, with other countries expected to follow soon. Samsung has not yet announced a rollout window for the Android 4.4 update for the Galaxy S4. The software should be close to what rolled out for Polish Galaxy Note 3 users, meaning a platform with mostly incremental improvements and no significant changes for the user interface.
