Backed by Microsoft, Finnish phone manufacturer Nokia is certainly, though slowly, climbing the ladder of success in the Windows Phone arena. Now, the tech giant is all set to broaden its horizons and join the Android bandwagon with its latest offering - the Normandy. Nokia is said to be prepping the device with a host of new-age functionalities that will keep in relevant in the highly competitive mobile world.
According to the large number of leaks from Evleaks that have been supplying the tech world with bites of information about the Normandy, Nokia's new phone is a brightly coloured, low-cost, entry level Android handset, quite like one of the devices in its popular Asha range. Newest leaked snapshots of the phone suggest that it runs Android 4.4 KitKat, though a version of the operating system that is customized for it. The phone comes with Nokia's proprietary launcher. In fact, the entire look and feel of the handset has a very Asha and Lumia tone to it.
From all the pictures of the Normandy, it seems that Nokia has given the handset a single capacitive back key at the bottom, at the place where one usually expects the home button to be. Since it runs a forked version of Google's operating system, it is unlikely to pack in the Google Play Store or Google's numerous apps, though it will come with a host of popular Android apps. The handset may sport dual-Sim capabilities as well. As KYM reports, rumour has it that the phone is being prepped in range of colours including black, green, white, yellow, red and blue.
Nokia is supposedly readying the Normandy for release at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month with a market launch scheduled for March. Given its specs and features, the phone should ideally be priced affordably. Since the demand for entry level Android devices in the Indian market is high, the smartphone should make its way to the subcontinent soon after its official launch. We will be snooping around for more news and information about Nokia's Android offering, stay tuned.
