Metis Learning launches learning tablet for kids

Metis Learning has launched its first Android tablet for kids, Eddy, in India. Priced at Rs 9,999, the tablet is mainly designed for children aged between 2 and 10 years.

The tablet is divided into three age brackets - 2-4 years, 5-7 years and 8-10 years. At the time of configuration, you have to enter your child's age which will unlock close to 70 apps on the tablet. As your child grows up, other apps start getting unlocked on the tablet.

Eddy has a 7-inch screen with 1024 x 600 p resolution display, a 0.3 megapixel front camera and a 2 megapixel back camera. It runs on Android 4.2 and is powered by a 1.6GHz dual core processor with 1GB of RAM. It has got an internal storage of 8GB with a memory card slot expandable up to 32GB. It doesn't support Bluetooth connectivity but apps can be downloaded over Wi-Fi. Its 3200 mAh battery can last for more than four hours.

Eddy comes with educator-selected learning content, a kid-safe environment and high-quality hardware. It also has a kid-safe browser, which only permits access to reliable websites. Parents can set time limits for their children to play on Eddy. They can also decide which subjects their children should focus on. Parents can create up to three profiles. Other than the education apps, Metis has also added a proprietary app called 'Kid's Radar' that helps you find the best education app for your child.

Metis has loaded close to 150 learning games, which are linked to school curriculum, covering key learning areas including language, math, creativity and more. Children can use this tablet to read books and even play a piano.

Bharat Gulia, CEO of Metis Learning, says: "Eddy introduces the concept of responsible technology, ensuring a safe and controlled technology experience for children with a strong focus on learning." Metis aims to sell 50,000 units this year.

A few years ago, Micromax had launched its first 7-inch tablet Funbook for students and had tied up with educational partners for the content. There are many other tablets in this segment such as Swipe Junior, HCL ME Champ and LeapPad 2.
