If you're building a new app from scratch, you might want to ditch the iOS option in favor of Android — especially if you want to get up and running quickly.
Turns out Android apps get built more quickly than apps for any other platform, including Windows and iOS.
In an Evans Data study, we learn that 41 percent of developers targeting Android said they can ship an app one month or less. That's compared to 36 percent of iOS devs and 34 percent of devs working on Windows mobile apps.
While all devs spend the majority of their time on testing and debugging, Android devs got to spend significantly more time on the fun stuff — UI and performance.
In addition to being the speediest (and most popular) way to develop a smartphone app, Android also came out on top for tablet app development, the survey said.
According to the results, 84 percent of developers making tablets apps went the Android route. Just 62 percent chose to do iPad apps, and 52 percent did Windows tablet apps.
Interestingly, Android also tops iOS and Windows in in-app downloads, according to data released by App Annie last summer.
And yes, as per usual, Android hits a vastly larger market share, taking 80 percent of the global smartphone market and leaving just 14 percent for iOS.
The survey was conducted among 464 developers around the world. Evans Data does these types of studies around once every six months.
