German automaker Volkswagen on Thursday denied it is phasing out its premium sedan Passat in India. The carmaker said it is working on a new generation Passat instead, which will be launched soon.

�We at Volkswagen continue to sell the current generation of the Passat through our dealer network. As with all our products, serviceability and availability of spares will never be an issue,� Volkswagen said.

�Globally the next generation of the Passat is being readied and we shall introduce it in the Indian market at the appropriate time,� the statement said.

Passat had a market share of 23% at the end of April-November 2013 period in the premium 3-litre sedan range while rival Skoda�s Superb is the dominant player with 40% market share. The company sold 421 Passat�s in the April-November 2013, a decline of 39% on a year-on-year basis.
