Microsoft, in collaboration with Amar Chitra Katha, launched an Indian comic book app at the Mumbai Comic Con, today.

"Children these days are drifting away from their Indian mythologies and stories, so this was our attempt to bring these value building stories on a platform familiar to them," explains Vineet Durani, director at Windows Phone Business Group of Microsoft.

Developed by Ninestars' App9 Digital Studio, the ACK Comics app is available for free download Microsoft users on Window 8 tablets and notebooks. As a special introductory offer, five comic books will be available for free download the first month. Each book can then be downloaded at the costs Rs 55 per copy. Downloaded comics can be accessed across multiple devices through a single user account.

A well known comic brand in India Amar Chitra Katha has been publishing comic books on Indian mythology, history, and culture for a few decades now. This app will give the users access to all of their publications, available in over 20 languages.

Speaking about the initiative, Durani added, "It is an attempt to create easy access to relevant Indian content." While referring to their consistent efforts in promoting local comics content, he also mentions another Windows 8 comic app—Comix on the go (http://www.windowsphone.com/en-in/store/app/comix-on-the-go/d8bed5f0-3e63-4c33-8719-afef047aa15a), he said, "The idea is to not just create accessible platforms but also aggregate relevant local and international content for readers."
