Android developers now have two more device options: LG today released a Google Play version of its G Pad 8.3 tablet, while Sony did the same with its Xperia Z Ultra smartphone.
The LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play edition is on sale now for $349.99, while the Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition will set you back $649.
Both devices sport Android 4.4 KitKat, which was first released in October on the Nexus 5 smartphone.
"Since 2012, Sony has provided Android Open Source Project (AOSP) for Xperia devices, for the tech community to use and contribute to – 'Sony Z Ultra Google Play edition' is another chapter in our work to support the open Android community," Sony said in a blog post.
The Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition sports a 6.4-inch full HD Triluminos display and runs a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor. It supports LTE and NFC, and comes in a dust-resistant and waterproof 6.5mm body, weighing 212 grams. Sony's developer site has the full specs, but check out the video below for more.
The LG G Pad 8.3, meanwhile, sports an 8.3-inch full HD IPS 1,920-by-1,200-pixel display with 273 pixels per inch. It runs a 1.7GHz, Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor, 2GB of LPDDR2 RAM, and a 4,600mAh battery. There's a 5-megapixel rear camera and 1.3-megapixel front-facing cam.
Google also sells developer editions of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One . Typically, developers favor these stripped-down phones and tablets because they run stock Android without any phone maker add-ons like Samsung Touchwiz and HTC Sense.
