Rumoured Google Nexus 8 to be based on LG's G Pad 8.3?
The Google Nexus 7 2013 is undoubtedly a great tablet, but sometimes we can't help feeling we'd prefer a slightly larger display. Therefore, we were delighted to report on rumours last month that a Google Nexus 8 was on the cards and fresh information about the tablet has now come to light.
Renowned tipster EVLeaks has revealed on Twitter that the rumoured 'LG V510 tablet is indeed a Nexus device.' Significantly, the recently released LG G Pad 8.3 (pictured above) has the model number LG V500, so it's possible that the Google Nexus 8 will be a modified version of LG's tablet.
A separate leak originating in China has given further credence to the rumours. The Chinese website Weibo (registration required) have got their hands on a leaked service manual for the LG V510 and, from what we know so far, it's looking identical to the LG G Pad 8.3.
According to the service manual the LG V510 (or Nexus 8) has an 8.3 inch 1920*1200 pixel display, 2GB of RAM, a 5 mega-pixel camera and a front-facing 1.3 mega-pixel camera. It has has dimensions of 216.8 x 126.5 x 8.3mm and a 4600 mAH battery.
Adding another inch to the display might not seem that significant, but importantly it would give Google a direct rival to Apple's 7.9 inch iPad Mini with Retina display.
