Two weeks ahead of its next-generation console launch, Microsoft is showing off the all-in-one capabilities of the Xbox One in a 12-minute preview video.
Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of marketing and strategy, and Chief Product Officer Marc Whitten highlight a handful of features, including voice recognition, instant switching, multitasking, and the new OneGuide.
"What we want to focus on is how games and entertainment come together to create some real magical experiences for you," Mehdi said in the video.
Among those magical experiences is the simple task of voice command —turn on your Xbox One, start playing a game, search for a TV show, change the channel, turn up the volume, and do so much more by just asking the machine. The function works via Microsoft's Kinect, which "talks" to your TV, set-top box, and AV receiver.
The sensor also recognizes physical entities, allowing users to instantly log into their personalized home screen by simply standing in front of the Kinect. Once logged in, your favorite games, shows, TV channels, movies, albums, Skype contacts, apps, and more can be pinned to your home page for easy access.
"We set out to make Xbox One the all-in-one games and entertainment hub for your home. The one system that offers the best games next to the best entertainment experience and apps," Whitten said in a statement. "Along with offering a stellar app portfolio from around the world, Xbox One takes the next step by offering them in a way that is seamless and easy to use."
To keep up with the ever-evolving console market, Microsoft developed the Xbox One to let users switch from live TV to an HDMI-compatible cable or satellite box, simply by the sound of your voice. Additionally, users will receive game play invites while watching a movie or live TV (pictured).
"No more multiple remotes, missed multiplayer matches while you're watching TV, or frustrating delays," the Xbox team wrote in a blog post.

The company today also unveiled a complete list of partners launching on the console over the coming months. Beginning Nov. 22, some of the world's biggest names in entertainment will be rolling out on the Xbox One in 13 launch markets.
In the U.S., those brands include Amazon Instant Video, ESPN, HBO GO, Hulu Plus, Netflix, Redbox Instant by Verizon, The NFL on Xbox One, Verizon FiOS TV, and 11 others. A full list of partners and markets is available online.
Additionally, every market Xbox One will also feature Xbox Fitness, Video, and Music, as well as Internet Explorer, Skype, SkyDrive, and Upload.
