Almost a year after Samsung launched the original 5-inch Galaxy Grand device, the company today revealed a 5.25-inch follow-up, which includes an improved HD viewing experience, enhanced performance, and other intuitive features.
Samsung promised that the Galaxy Grand 2 is "perfect for watching movies, playing games and e-reading." Multitasking also comes a lot more easily, with the Multi Window feature, which utilizes the large screen to allow two applications to run side by side.
Running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, the handset sports a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and long-lasting 2,600mAh battery, which means up to 10 hours of video/music playback and 17 hours of call time. Plus, dual-SIM capabilities let users swap between networks.
Of course, it wouldn't be a Samsung Galaxy device without smart camera features like Best Face, Best Photo, Continuous Shot, and Story Album. Additionally, the phone comes with S Translator, S Travel, Sound & Shot (record up to nine seconds of audio with photos), Samsung Hub, Group Play (listen to music, share documents, play games together), and Samsung Link, which connects devices to access photos, music, videos, and documents from multiple locations.
Other smartphone specs include a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera and an 8-megapixel back cam, 1.5GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage — expandable up to 64GB. The device comes with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS capabilities, but it lacks 4G LTE compatibility; it supports HSPA+ instead.
Samsung has not revealed specific pricing or a launch date, but said the Galaxy Grand 2 will come in classic black or white, as well as pink in "selective regions."
Despite its name, the Galaxy Grand 2 is not exactly Samsung's largest device, however. The Galaxy Mega comes in at 6.3 inches, while the Galaxy Note 3 sports a 5.7-inch display.
