Apple launched its news iPhones including the 5S and 5C in India last week. GizBot managed to grab one of the 5C handsets for a little test drive. Here are our first impressions.
Build quality and design
With the iPhone 5C, Apple has taken that plasticy-feel out of a plastic phone. Despite using polycarbonate, Apple's new handset feels solid. Apple has stuck to its usual high standards of quality with the 5C. So it is worth noting that even though there was speculation about the 5C being a 'low-cost', it is anything but that. Apple has simply taken away the metal and added some plastic so as to better differentiate the 5C and 5S.
The handset has some wonderful rounded off corners. Combined with the smooth finish, it makes the phone feel nice in your hands. It is comfortable even for long hours of texting and given its dimensions and weight, it also happens to be perfect for long calls.
Display
Apple hasn't sacrificed display quality on this handset. In fact, the company has used its pristine retina display for the job. The handset houses a 4-inch (diagonal), 1136x640 resolution, 326 ppi.Pixels look nearly invisible and the handset happens to be a visual treat for the eyes. The screen on the 5C will beat your average HD display on most handsets in the market. Text was great to read, the new subtle iOS7 animations flowed onto the screen nicely and the handset offers a great display overall.
Performance
The 5C uses the exact same components as the older iPhone 5. There's the peppy little A6 processor among other things. The handset runs iOS7 with ease and everything performed smoothly. We put it through a mini multi tasking marathon and handset performed just fine, reaching the finishing line without any lags or stutters.
