CHENNAI: Bajaj Auto has launched a new 100cc bike — the Discover 100M in Chennai to compete with bikes like Hero's Splendor and Passion and Honda Dream Yuga in the mid-segment of mileage motorbikes in India.
The bike is powered by Bajaj's patented 4-valve DTS-i technology, provides 9.3 Ps of power, and fuel efficiency of 84km/l (as per CMVR norms), a statement from the company said.
It is positioned in the mid-priced value 100cc motorcycle segment. This segment forms 45% of the overall motorbike industry in India, and Hero is currently the leader in this segment with 20% market share.
Bajaj, earlier, had bikes in the lower end and premium end of the value-segment in mileage bikes and has introduced two variants now to fill this lacuna. The two variants of Discover 100MW will be positioned between Bajaj's entry level motorcycle Discover 100 4G which is priced around Rs 43,000 and Discover 100 T which is priced at Rs 52,000.
With this launch, the company plans to increase its focus on the mid segment of motorbikes. Bajaj has manufactured about 35,000 units of these bikes this month and expects to make a similar number next month, said K Srinivas, President (Motorcycle Business), Bajaj Auto.
Over the next six to eight months, Bajaj will launch two more bikes under the Discover brand, Srinivas added.
The Discover 100M will be priced at Rs 47,405 (ex-showroom-Chennai ). It will be available in five colours - Flame Red, Brilliant Blue, Midnight Black (Red decals), Midnight Black (Blue decals) and Midnight Black.
