Nokia 108 and 108 Dual-SIM - Mobile Gazette

 Nokia 108 Expected Q4 2013
16th September 2013

There are some things that a budget phone can do just as well as a high-end handset costing more than twenty times as much. On many ultra-cheap devices you can make calls, send texts, listen to MP3s or an FM radio and use a Bluetooth headset or car kit just as effectively as a top-of-the-range smartphone.

But one of the things that expensive devices tend to do well is digital imaging. In recent years we've seen an explosion in the megapixel count, HD video capture, intelligent flash control, advanced image processing and a whole load of features that have made camera phones truly useful.. and that make the crude, low-resolution images of early camera phones appear positively stone age.

But if you want to relive the days of low-res digital photography then the new Nokia 108 may be what you are looking for. Priced at just $25 before tax and subsidy (€19 or £16) you get an attractive colour phone with a 1.8" 128 x 160 pixel display, an MP3 player, FM radio, microSD slot and Bluetooth 3.0 support plus the wonders of a 0.3 megapixel VGA resolution camera that parties like it is 2006. There's no internet access and Nokia's basic Series 30 platform doesn't support downloadable applications, but at this sort of price who really cares?

We are perhaps being a bit cruel here, but just imagine how much better the 108 would be with a 2 megapixel or perhaps 3.2 megapixel sensor in the back. It might cost a little more, but it would be a much more useful photography tool.

The Nokia 108 comes in dual-SIM and single-SIM configurations, weighs 70 grams and the battery gives nearly 14 hours talktime and 25 days standby in the dual-SIM version. The 108 comes in an attractive plastic body and is available in several bright colours.

Overall, the Nokia 108 does offer remarkable value for money, but remember that you will need to buy a microSD card if you want to store anything much which will add to the cost. Nokia say that the 108 should be available from Q4 2013 onwards.
