NEW DELHI: At a time when the Indian car industry is passing through one of its worst slowdown in a decade, Hyundai drove in a new compact 'Grand i10' that will take on models like Maruti Swift and Ford Figo. However, the model also threatens to take away numbers from Hyundai's i10 and i20 compacts.
The Grand i10 will come in petrol and diesel variants. While the entry petrol model has a price of Rs 4.29 lakh, the diesel starts at Rs 5.23 lakh (exshowroom Delhi). For Hyundai, this is the lowest-priced diesel compact and the company is hoping to take away volumes from segment leader Swift, whose entry diesel model is priced at Rs 5.58 lakh.
Cannabalisation is one of the key concerns for Hyundai executives as the Grand's new platform will make it a compelling choice for buyers of the existing i10 as we ll as i20. "Our focus will be to create a differentiation for all the three products. We are confident that the Grand will add to our overall volumes," said Rakesh Srivastava, Senior VP at Hyundai India.
