Tata Motors rejigs car biz in backdrop of falling sales - Moneycontrol.com

The manufacturer of India's cheapest car Nano, Tata Motors has decided to restructure its passenger vehicle business in backdrop falling sales and consumer demand, reports CNBC-TV18 quoting sources.

Automobile manufacturers have been facing severe slump in car sales due to weak economic growth, increasing fuel prices and lower consumer interest.

Tata Motors on Thursday reported a 29.96-percent decline in total vehicle sales at 51,468 units in July, 2013 . Its passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market stood at 10,824 units in July, down 58.75 percent from 26,240 units in the same month last year.

Tata Motors has merged four regional divisions of north, south east and west in to two national sales divisions. The company has also merged four products including Nano, UV and Fiat in to a single vertical.

The business rejig also involves management reshuffle, where in former General Motors Executive Ankush Arora will now be heading sales, marketing and services along with strategy department. The company also appointed Asheesh Dhar as national sales head for western and southern region and Amit Sagar as national head of eastern and northern region. All the restructuring changes will be able applicable from July.

This is the second major revamp, Tata Motors has undertaken since managing director Karl Slym took charge. The company has introduced slew of changes in last six months with an aim to have strong podium finish in passenger vehicle segment. Sources said that the result of these changes will be reflected in one-two years.
